Comprehensive IRCC Medical Exam Services in the Greater Toronto Area

You must book an appointment when seeking an IRCC medical exam in the Greater Toronto Area. The Government of Canada approves panel physicians in the GTA to conduct Immigration Medical Exams (IME).

Medical Exams for Permanent Residency Applications

If you are preparing for your permanent residency application, you may complete an immigration exam ahead of time. You may also receive instructions regarding the need to complete a medical exam after you submit your application. IRCC’s instructions will outline when to book the appointment and what type of exam is required.

To apply for permanent residence, you must complete an immigration medical exam. Two types of IMEs are available:

  • Streamlined Medical Exams: A simplified process used during urgent operational crises (e.g., humanitarian situations) or exceptional circumstances as determined by the IRCC.
  • Standard Medical Exams: The typical IME process required for most applicants.

Work Permits, Student Visas, and Visitor Visas

An IME is required if you work in certain fields or stay in Canada for over six months. You must complete an IME if:

  • You have lived or travelled in these specific countries for six months or more in a row during the year before coming to Canada.
  • You work in a job where public health must be protected.

For those applying for a grandparent or parent super visa, an immigration medical exam may be required before or after applying. This also applies if you plan to work or study in Canada.

Refugee Medical Exams

Visitors and refugees must obtain an immigration medical exam to ensure there are no safety concerns or public health issues. The exam is free for refugees with valid Blue Cross coverage. Booking your immigration medical exam as soon as possible is advisable to prevent delay in processing your refugee claim.

The Immigration Medical Exam Process

When attending your immigration medical exam, bring a valid ID and fill out a brief questionnaire about your medical history when you are in our clinic. Ensure you bring any current medications and medical notes from previous providers regarding your health.

Blood Tests and Chest X-Rays

Your panel physician will collect blood samples for analysis, screening for conditions like HIV, syphilis, and serum creatinine (to detect kidney disease).

Chest X-rays are conducted to detect tuberculosis (TB), a condition that can develop without symptoms. Individuals aged 11 and older are required to undergo chest X-rays.

Medical Questionnaires

The visit with the panel physician will include detailed examinations of the lungs, heart, eyes, and overall health.

Vision and Hearing Tests

Vision tests evaluate eye health, including case history, eye movements, coordination, and peripheral vision.
