The Medical Exam Process
The Immigration Medical Exam is a key part of the Canadian immigration process. Here are a few things to expect when receiving your medical exam from one of our approved Panel Physicians.
When You Arrive
Our Panel Physician or clinic staff will ask you for your government-issued identification to confirm your identity. Depending on the diagnostic test required, you may be asked to present your identification again.
Medical History Questionnaire
Our Panel Physician will walk through a medical history questionnaire with you to learn about any previous or existing medical conditions. They will also ask you about any medications you are currently taking.
It’s important that you are honest and disclose this information to your Panel Physician as processing your medical exam may take longer if you don’t.
Physical Exam
A comprehensive physical exam will be conducted to determine your overall physical health. The doctor or medical clinic staff may:
- Weigh you
- Measure your height
- Check your hearing and vision
- Take your blood pressure
- Listen to your heart and lungs
- Feel your abdomen
- Feel your pulse
- Check your limb movements
- Look at your skin
Depending on your age, a chest x-ray, and blood test may be required. Depending on the results of your physical exam, age, and condition, the Panel Physician may ask you to undergo further diagnostic testing.
After Your Medical Exam
Once your Immigration Medical Exam is complete, we will send your results to IRCC via e-Medical in approximately 5 to 10 days of your exam. We will also give you a document, such as an Information Sheet or IMM1017B to confirm that you have completed your exam.
